Staying Alive: OBAMA AFTER THE GUNS?

Staying Alive: OBAMA AFTER THE GUNS?
In conversation with a friend today– word comes from ‘official
rumors’ that Obammy is planning some executive orders. These will
firstly, forbid private sales at gun shows, perhaps private gun sales
altogether. Hard to outlaw one without the other..

Secondly, they will effectively outlaw semiautos, handgnus as well
long guns, presumably shotguns as well as rifles. They will be
required to be treated as full autos are now– registration, full back
ground check, paperwork, fingerprints, and of course, if anything
meets with their disapproval, the gun will be confiscated and
registration of it not permitted.

No Nanny State - Molon Labe!: Cry For Me, Argentina

No Nanny State - Molon Labe!
I wrote that sentence in a blog entry titled, Nationalization: It’s What The Cool Kids Do. It was a post about how Argentina had recently nationalized their private retirement system. It looks like our Congress is working to make us among the hipsters.

TheOtherRyan had a post over at TSLRF about how a California Congress-critter is so worried about how the 401k plans in the US are taking a beating, it might just make sense to Nationalize them. It’s for the good of The People, don’t you know?

According to an article in Carolina Journal, we’re apparently too stupid for our own good.

The testimony of Teresa Ghilarducci, professor of economic policy analysis at the New School for Social Research in New York, in hearings Oct. 7 drew the most attention and criticism. Testifying for the House Committee on Education and Labor, Ghilarducci proposed that the government eliminate tax breaks for 401(k) and similar retirement accounts, such as IRAs, and confiscate workers’ retirement plan accounts and convert them to universal Guaranteed Retirement Accounts (GRAs) managed by the Social Security Administration.

Indeed during Hurricane Ike, U.S. Customs and Border Protection for the first time flew the Predator B unmanned aerial vehicle in “support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s relief efforts,” the insider tech publication reported.

As readers are well aware, the Predator B carries out “targeted assassinations” of “terrorist suspects” across Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. The deployment of the robotic killing machines in the United States for “disaster management” is troubling to say the least and a harbinger of things to come.

Despite objections by Congress and civil liberties groups DHS, in close collaboration with the ultra-spooky National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), the agency that develops and maintains America’s fleet of military spy satellites, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) that analyzes military imagery and generates mapping tools, are proceeding with the first phase of the controversial domestic spying program.

I really think that the economy is tanking. If you have a job hold onto it. Kiss your boss’ butt. I heard on CNBC the other morning that retail sales are way down at the Abercrombie (-20%) and the Gap (-16%). This is the beginning of the end. It’s beyond a doubt that this will be the worst Christmas season for retailers ever.

Seeing how around 65% of the American economy is consumer based and retailers do the vast majority of their business during the Christmas season there are not good tidings ahead. Consumers are forced to pull back their spending because growths in productivity haven’t trickled down as growth in wages. The owners get richer and the workers get poorer.

The Aspiring Survivalist: Putin Promotes SCO at International Summit
I just learned of the SCO myself, but for those of you who don’t know, The SCO is widely seen as a counterweight to NATO’s influence in Eurasia.
