According to a recent New York Times article, “The traditional face of survivalism is that of a shaggy loner in camouflage, holed up in a cabin in the wilderness and surrounded by cases of canned goods and ammunition. [But] faced with a confluence of diverse threats — a tanking economy, a housing crisis, looming environmental disasters, and a sharp spike in oil prices — people who do not consider themselves extremists are starting to discuss doomsday measures once associated with the social fringes.”

Keep It Simple Survival!: Getting Back To Basics
That’s all “survivalism” is, getting back to basics. Whether your planting a crop, getting a gun and some ammo, putting up canned food, canning some yourself, making your own stuff, or whatever, you are taking care of your most basic of needs. Maybe you do blow a wad of cash on your preps, but I reckon it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than eating out every day, buying a shiny new boat, keeping up the McMansion, or any of the other crap the sheeple are so engrossed in.
By prepping, we are truly getting back to basics, and I suspect all of our lives are richer, and certainly better for it. You see, self reliance is about more than just survival. It’s about living right. It’s about sharpening your mind and your skills (and your knives, heh heh). It’s about freedom to live our lives as we see fit. It’s about rejecting the status quo.
