Foraging Prepper: But I can only work so fast….
Do you have the skills that can be worth something to someone in the coming days? If not you better be working on something so you don’t have to keep the beast going.

The Market Oracle: Status Report on the Collapse of the U.S. Economy

What is really taking place, however, is that the producing economy of working men and women is being crushed by the overall debt burden on households, businesses, and governments that could reach $70 trillion by 2010. The financial system, including mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, is bankrupt, as the debts it is based on cannot be repaid.

This is because the producing economy of people who work for a living simply can no longer generate enough purchasing power for people either to pay their debts or allow them to purchase what is being sold in the marketplace. In turn it is the debt burden and the loss of societal purchasing power that are crashing the stock market. Thus the collapse of the financial economy has started to destroy the producing economy as well.

It’s a “perfect storm,” the result of a 200-year-old financial system where money is largely created by bank lending and where since 1980 our industry and jobs have been increasingly outsourced abroad to cheap labor markets. Thus domestic incomes have stagnated while the nation’s GDP has not been able to keep up with the exponential growth of debt.

Notes from the bunker: Defence, self defense and those rogue elements

Defence, self defense and those rogue elements
If taking violent action against criminals results in future criminals feeling the need to arm themselves then your response wasn’t violent enough. Someone bent on breaking into your home and killing you for the coin jar on your dresser should be made to feel that even showing up with a bazooka wouldn’t be enough to keep them from landing on a morgue slab.

Staying Alive: LONG BUT NECESSARY

Staying Alive: LONG BUT NECESSARY
Almost everyone has a garden, and I feel no racial tension. Locally,
there are lots of Mormons, who have a tradition and teaching of
maintaining food and supplies for an extended period. I live in a
largish county, and there are 13k folks in the whole county.
And EVERY household is armed. And I pretty much mean, EVERYbody. If
you are NOT armed, at least if you let it be known, folks around here
would consider you…. well… ’strange’, let’s say. If nothing more
than a 22 for small game, or an old double barrel 12, this is a very
well armed place.

Total Survivalist Libertarian Rantfest: everyday automobiles
Most of us drive some sort of an automobile to work. Figuring we spend a bit more then 8 hours a day at work and a bit of time driving between work and home there is a shade less then a 50/50 chance we will not be home if something bad happens. This is where someone meantions “we only work 5 days a week and 8 is exactly 1/3rd of 24 so it is less then a 33% chance (weekends holidays, etc) we will not be home. I would counter that 1/3rd does not include any sort of errands, grocery shopping, those trips to the gun shop, family commitments, social activities and all sorts of other stuff.
